Visiting Ulu Camii Mosque Utrecht

In Utrecht, there is a big mosque which is called Ulu Camii Mosque. The building looks exactly like a mosque with two towers on the left and right of the main building. Something I really appreciate because I can tell my son what a mosque looks like.

Hello traveller,

Last year my family and I visited Utrecht for the very first time. Our friends recommended us mainly three things to do in Utrecht. Three activities that can be done together with the family.

The first one is to visit a train museum. If we are hungry and want to eat something rarely found in Germany, they suggested us to eat the most delicious spareribs they ever tasted. Then, the last one is to go to a big mosque near the restaurant.

We did the recommended activities and were happy about it. I will write each of the stories here to share it with you.

Location Ulu Camii Mosque Utrecht

The mosque is easy to find. Even Google Maps will show you the location and the picture of the mosque. It is located in walking distance from the train main station. The location is also not far from Utrecht city center.

The address of the mosque is Moskeeplein 89. According to Wikipedia, Moskeeplein is translated as mosque square in English. This is the first square in the Netherlands that was given a name after a religious building.

In the surrounding area around the mosque, we can find many halal restaurants and halal butchers and also supermarkets. The restaurant, which was recommended by our friends, was also located in walking distance from the mosque.

On the ground level of the mosque is also a restaurant. We’ve never visited the restaurant. However, I always saw that the restaurant was full of guests.

How to Get There

My family and I always went there by car. So, I do not know how to get there by bus. However, I saw a public bus going around the area.

Since we went there by car, I can suggest you where to park the car. For your information, the street in front of the mosque, Damstraat, is a one-way street. So, I hope my description will be easier to understand.

My husband’s favorite parking area is directly on the right side of the street as you come to the Damstraat. I think this place is a favorite for everyone since it is always full hehehe… Another option is to park the car on the left or right side of the street. You have to pay a parking fee here, which is for us not cheap.

The first junction is where you can find the mosque. You can go through and park your car in the parking building on the right side. It is more convenient and the parking fee is less expensive than the fee of the street. However, we never had a chance to park there because it was always full whenever we went there.

Another option is to not go through but turn left at the junction. On the left and right of the street, you can find smaller streets. If you are lucky, you can find one here.

Ulu Camii Mosque

Two words I can use to describe the mosque: big and beautiful.

On the first level there are rooms that can be used for activities and office. The second level is used for man praying area. On the third level is where the women pray.

We can use the elevator to go to the upper level.

I like the washing and toilet room. The mosque provides us sandals to be used during washing. The washing area is clean and not wet. The toilet is clean too.

So, if you are moslem and visit Utrecht, do not forget to visit the mosque. It is nice to pray there together with other moslems.

If you want to hear adzan, just come when the pray time begins. You will hear the adzan and it is really nice.

Happy travelling,

Amelia
