Visiting FC Utrecht Stadium was in our agenda because we have a football fans in our family.
Hello traveller,
Are you a football fans?
Are your husband and/or your children a football fans?
If you have someone in your family declares himself a football fans, I think stadium tour should be in your itinerary. Another alternative to make him or her happy is to visit the stadium, if you find the tour expensive.
Ever since my son declared himself as a football fans, he always asks me or my husband to visit football stadium. Whenever and wherever we go to other city, he wants to visit it.
Visiting FC Utrecht Stadium
Visiting the stadium in Utrecht was actually a surprise for my son. He only knew that we wanted to go to Utrecht for lunch. He did not expect that we took him to the stadium.
It was also a last minute decision from me and his father. We calculated that we had plenty of time before lunch time. The arrival time in Utrecht was too early for having lunch. We had just breakfast and our stomach was still full of meals.
My son liked the idea of visiting Stadion Galgenwaard, the homebase stadium of FC Utrecht. Not only to see the stadium but also to buy the jersey of FC Utrecht. The official merchandise shop was usually located in the stadium. He knew that and expecting to have one of the jersey.
Location
The address of the stadium is Herculesplein 241. It is located a little bit far from Utrecht‘s city center. We went there using a car. The duration from city center to the stadium was about 10-15 minutes.
I checked on Google Maps and found that the stadium is also reachable by public transportation. There are buses and trams that will take you to FC Utrecht stadium. It will takes almost 30 minutes from city center to stadium.
Another alternative is bicycling. According to Google Maps, it will take only 12 minutes from city center to Stadion Galgenwaard.
Stadion Galgenwaard
We arrived there around 10 o‘ clock in the morning. The situation was quiet because not so many people can we found there. We thought the stadium was closed.
As the home stadium for FC Utrecht, we saw a large screen displaying images of five FC Utrecht players. There were 4 players from the man squad and one player of woman squad. All of them wore home jersey.
The stadium is not as big as the stadium in Hannover which belongs to Hannover 96. According to Wikipedia, the capacity of Stadion Galgenwaard is almost 24.000 persons. The Heinz von Heiden-Arena, the Hannover 96 stadium has capacity of 49.200 spectators.
Unfortunately, we did not go inside the stadium. We did not participate any stadium tour. We only walked around the stadium a bit to find an opening space where we could see the field and the spectators‘ seats.
Usually in every stadium we have been to before, there are a large barred door that allow us to peek inside the stadium. We found it and were happy to see the green field and red seats in the stadium.
So, here are the pictures of the main entrance where we parked our car.

Fanshop
As soon as my son saw the fanshop, his eyes shone. He asked to buy FC Utrecht jersey. The jersey will be wore for his football training.
We were lucky. There was discount offer for last season jersey. At first, my son was not so happy because he expected to buy the new jersey. He did not get his wish because it was expensive.
However, my husband explained carefully why he did not get it. Finally, he accepted the last season home jersey. We bought it for 20 Euro. For an original and new jersey, we found it as a very good price.
If you are one of the FC Utrecht fans or you are a football fans, I hope someday you can visit the stadium too.
Happy travelling,
Amelia
