My Babymoon Story

My babymoon story is part of my unforgettable pregnancy story. I went on a babymoon during my first and second pregnancy. Both experiences have their own stories and beautiful memories. Both of my children have travelled around while still in the womb.

Hello traveller,

Have you ever heard of a babymoon?

What is a babymoon?

Honestly, I never heard of it until I was pregnant. My first pregnancy was more than five years ago. Babymoon is an English word that means a fun trip, a holiday for a couple during pregnancy. So, if anyone asks me why the trip is called a babymoon, I can now answer it correctly not only because I know what it means but also because I experienced it myself.

In my opinion, a babymoon is different from a honeymoon. My Honeymoon was a very nice and fun trip where for the first time I did it together with my husband. I spent time with him after marriage doing exciting, adventurous, and fun activities. Similarly, my babymoon trips were also fun holidays. However, we had to be extra careful during the trip because of the baby I was carrying.

I know babymoon is a trend and it has grown in popularity. However, I did not go on a pregnancy trip because I was following a trend. I did not feel afraid of missing out if I did not do it. There were several reasons that made me and my husband go on this trip.

I will tell you about my babymoon story…

Second Trimester of Pregnancy

Before my husband and I finally decided to travel during my pregnancy, I did my homework to research the safety of this trip. I did so during my first pregnancy.

Not only did I surf the internet, I also asked my doctor if I could go on the trip. Therefore, I suggest pregnant women to ask their doctor first before deciding to go on a babymoon.

I was lucky to have two healthy pregnancies. As long as I was careful, did not go alone, had a good appetite, and was healthy, then I could go on the trip.

I had a less than pleasant first trimester in both of my pregnancies. Going on a babymoon in the first trimester is not recommended because apart from being out of shape, many changes are happening to your body. Pregnant women need to adapt to these changes and should not travel. In early pregnancy, there is also a lot of fetal development so we have to condition our bodies well for that.

I felt better in the second trimester of both pregnancies. Babymoon should be done when the pregnant woman is on a good and stable condition. Having morning sickness on a babymoon is not a memorable experience, trust me! The last thing you want to do on a babymoon is only lie your hotel bed because you are sick.

Going on a babymoon during my third semester was not my choice. I imagined my belly would grow, big, and felt heavy. It would not be wonderful experience. I would feel tired and sleepy easily. It would be more risky if I did it after 28 weeks of pregnancy.

Germany: Holiday.

My Babymoon Story

When I first went on a babymoon during my first pregnancy, it was not a trip designed for that purpose. The travelling we planned was purely for a vacation for me and my mother.

My mother happened to be visiting Germany and as usual, when she visits, we took her on holiday. I planned the trip, bought the transportation ticket, and booked the accommodation well in advance of the holiday to get a cheaper price.

Unexpectedly a few weeks before the trip, I found out that I was pregnant. Cancelling everything meant we not only lost the holiday but also our money. After doing the maths, the holiday should have been in the second trimester. Based on my research, it is safe to do a vacation during this phase of pregnancy. From my research, I found out that there was a specific term used for holidays while pregnant. So all in all, the trip became my first babymoon.

Germany: One Transport Ticket for Germany.

My first babymoon story

I went on my first babymoon with my mother. So, as I’ve explained to you before, this trip was originally a regular holiday. The cities in the countries we visited were a compromise with my mother. Most of them were places that she wanted to visit.

For the first babymoon, I went to Budapest in Hungary, Vienna in Austria, and Prague in the Czech Republic. We went to three different countries and were quite far from Hannover.

I was in the transition between the first and second trimester. I still felt nauseous and have vomited several times. Luckily, I went on babymoon with my mother so I was in good hands.

The highlight of the holiday was the journey between Hannover and Budapest. For the first time, I rode a train for 12 hours. Even without being pregnant, the long journey was already tough. A long journey while pregnant, also with an uncomfortable sitting position on the train, made the 12 hour journey feel even longer. Luckily again, most of the journey was done at night so even though it was uncomfortable, I could at least get through the journey by sleeping.

Overall, I enjoyed this trip. For the first time, I did not chase the itinerary target. Everything was done slowly which surprisingly turned out to be enjoyable.

My second babymoon story

Unlike the first one, the second babymoon was planned as a real babymoon trip. However, it was not only a holiday for me and my husband because we brought our son too.

It was difficult to leave our first child behind. He was still underage and no one from our family could be with him. In fact, one of the strongest reasons that we had second babymoon trip is to have a memorable trip of three before he shares his parents with his younger sibling.

However, it did not mean that I could not enjoy my time with my husband. There were moments which I felt special too.

During my second pregnancy, we went on several long-distance trips with my family. All of them were our babymoon. These multiple holidays were possible because during my second pregnancy we had several school holidays.

We travelled to several cities in different countries. We sent to Copenhagen in Denmark, Malmö in Sweden, Salzburg and Vienna in Austria, Bratislava in Slovakia, and Paris in France.

My second pregnancy was totally different than the first one. I had to realised that my body wanted to be slowing down the body movement and not push myself.

Even it was much slower than the first babymoon, I really enjoyed the trip. I liked it that we could spend time together as family of three.

If you ask me if I was tired after babymoon, the answer is yes. But the joy and happiness that arises from being able to take a walk while pregnant, then being able to capture a bulging belly with the background of the holiday location is something that cannot be paid for.

The possibility to focus on my first son during the trip was nice. I could imagine after the birth of my second child our holiday will never be the same again.

It was worth it!

I have my babymoon stories.

I recommend to go on babymoon if you are healthy, have time and can afford it. Let’s making memories. Enjoy every moment during the pregnancy with the special one before the birth of the baby.

Happy travelling,

Amelia
