Hajj From Germany

Alhamdulillah, in 2024 we were enabled by Allah to complete our fifth pillar of Islam. We have been planning our Hajj trip for a long time. The desire to do Hajj has been there for many years, it’s just that the fortune for both of us to do Hajj was only obtained and we can do it in June 2024.

Hello traveller,

It feels so beautiful to remember the journey of planning our Hajj from the beginning. Allah’s plan is always beautiful, mashaAllah. Although we are Indonesian citizens, we did not go for Hajj from Indonesia.

Since my husband and I had the intention to go on Hajj, we wanted to go from Germany. Although we are foreigners here in Germany, we are allowed to go for Hajj using the German Hajj quota as long as we have a valid residence permit. A residence permit as a resident and not as a tourist (Schengen visa). The residence permit also has a minimum period of validity.

It’s true!

In Germany, Muslims can go for Hajj immediately without queuing. To the best of my knowledge, there is no queue for Hajj as is common in Muslim-majority countries. Acquaintances who have travelled to Hajj from Germany before usually apply as soon as the Hajj registration is announced.

They were able to go straight to Hajj without queuing. Our own experience was the same, no need to queue. We registered and inshallah departed that year. There was no queue for years. In Germany there is no such thing as regular Hajj, plus or furoda. We also did not have to pay a higher fee because we wanted to go for Hajj in the same year.

In the past, before the COVID-19 pandemic, registering for Hajj after the Hajj season in year X was over meant registering for Hajj departure in year X + 1. After the pandemic, there was a change in the registration system. If you want to go on Hajj in year Y, prospective pilgrims can only register in year Y. Currently, you can no longer register in year Y – 1.

In 2020 and 2021, when the pandemic took place, there were no departures of German pilgrims. Due to changes in the Hajj registration system in 2022, 2020 and 2021 pilgrims who have been delayed do not need to queue to register for Hajj. Everyone has the same opportunity to register in 2022, including prospective pilgrims who only intend to depart in 2022.
