Eating halal spareribs during our stay in Utrecht was a very nice experience. For the very first time since we moved to Europe my husband and I could eat delicious ribs. This restaurant will be our first choice whenever we visit the Netherlands.
Hello traveller,
A few weeks ago my family and I took my mother to Schipol, an international airport in Amsterdam. She flew back to Indonesia after visiting us for a month. The flight departed around 11 a.m. so we had to check out from our hotel at breakfast time. It was very early, right?
After checked-in my mother decided to just go inside the gate. She preferred to make it early to avoid the long-standing line for immigration. So, at around 9 a.m. we already left Schipol. However, we did not want to go back directly to Germany.
We diverted our journey south to visit Utrecht. We have special experience in this city, in particular culinary experience. As I wrote above, we would like to visit a restaurant that serves delicious halal spareribs.
Eating Halal Spareribs in Utrecht
We knew the restaurant, Dar Al Maghreb, from our friends. They recommended us the menu, the grilled spareribs. It is said to be the best and most delicious spareribs that they ever ate. A very influencing recommendation, isn’t it?

So, we decided to visit the restaurant for the first time and we ordered the menu. Of course, each of us had one spareribs. We did not want to share the delicious dish hahaha…
As we were waiting for the food, a waiter delivered a plate with very big ribs. Not only that, the plate was also full of french fries and salad. My husband and I were surprised. We did not think that it would be that big plate. On the other hand, we were happy because it was a big portion, looked tasty, and smelled so good.
I’m drooling at the thought of such food as I write this post. Oh no, my stomach is also starting to churn at the thought of the aroma of those grilled ribs.
We did not wait too long to get ours. As we ate the spareribs for the very first time.. MasyaAllah.. Our friends were right because it tasted so delicious. I can bite into its flesh easily. The meat was not tough and even when chewed, it melted in my mouth. I was also able to remove the meat from the bone easily.

The ribs were marinated well enough. It was not only the meat, the bone tasted also the same when I sucked on the surface of the bone. I could taste the flavor so well.
We also had fries and salad on our plates. The french fries tasted also good. The outside was crisp but the inside was soft and not dry. The savory saltiness of the fries was just right in my opinion. The salad was fresh. I could find corn, carrots, cucumber, lettuce, and some more vegetables.
What about sauce?
On each of the tables, they always provide five different sauces. There is mayonnaise, tomato sauce, barbeque sauce, mustard, and garlic sauce. Trust me, they all taste good. There are no extra prices for the sauce because the restaurant provides it for the customer.

Other Menu in Dar Al Maghreb
My son did not eat the same menu as his parents. He ordered chicken nuggets and a plate of french fries. When his order came, I saw that he got six nuggets and lots of fries. The portion of the fries was quite a lot so he could rarely eat all of them. He ate it with his favorite sauce.
He gave his dish five stars. Giving a rating to the food is always done by him whenever we take him to a restaurant. He is a bit picky when comes to eating. So, if he gave five stars, it means he liked his food very much.

Other than what we ordered, there are many other foods too. There is bread with eggs, hamburger, durum with various filling options such as kofta or fish, and also other grilled menu. We never tried other food over there but every time we saw the waiter bring the food to other customers, it looked delicious and smelled so nice.
One day a man in the restaurant, who we thought was the owner, offered my husband a glass of tea. It was a mint tea. Lately, I just found out that the mint tea from the restaurant is also famous.
One spareribs portion will cost you 18 Euro.

If you want to taste the deliciousness of the food, you can find it on Damstraat 17, Utrecht. The location of the restaurant is not far from the Ulu Camii mosque. The street is also within distance of Utrecht Central Station. Along this street, you can also find many halal food options.

Hopefully, I can visit this restaurant again someday. I want to enjoy the food and also the mint tea. Not only me, I hope you can also visit the city and of course eating halal spareribs in Utrecht.
Happy travelling,
Amelia
