Read my babymoon tips to give you information on what you should consider before, during, and after trip. I write the tips based on my experience and research.
Hello traveller,
Every pregnancy is different. Each individual has different pregnancy conditions. The health conditions during the first and the second pregnancy can also be different. I felt it myself.
The health condition during pregnancy is, I think, the main determinant of whether we can go on a holiday trip while pregnant. Therefore, the decision to go on a babymoon should not be decided by the couple alone but also involve their doctor or midwife who examined the pregnant mother during pregnancy.
What about my own experience?
My Pregnancy Condition
I experienced different pregnancy conditions between my first and second child. Fortunately, the health of pregnant women is well taken care of in Germany. The condition of the pregnancy is regularly examined by the doctor and midwife. I happened to have a regular examination at a clinic that combines doctor and midwife examinations.
In my first pregnancy, I was not doing so well in the first trimester of pregnancy. The nausea and vomiting that I experienced were quite disturbing even though I was not hospitalised. This condition gradually improved as the pregnancy approached the second trimester.
My first babymoon happened when my pregnancy was at the end of the first trimester and beginning of the second trimester of pregnancy. Although my nausea and vomiting had improved by then, there were times when I had to stop walking and rest due to nausea and vomiting.
When I was pregnant with my second child, the nausea and vomiting that I felt during the first trimester were still tolerable. However, my physical condition was not as good as the first pregnancy. I tired easily and felt heavy since the beginning of the pregnancy.
The nausea and vomiting stopped when I entered the second trimester of pregnancy. It was helpful that I could eat and drink anything to help improve my physical condition which remained as it was.
With this condition, I was able to go on several babymoon trips during my second pregnancy. It was beyond my imagination. Perhaps because the excitement of going on a holiday with my husband and first child was high, I had the strength and was able to visit several different cities each time the school holiday season in Germany came around.

Babymoon Tips
The babymoon tips I’ve written here are mostly from my own experience. If there are things important that I did not experience myself during my babymoon trips, then I searched for information from various references. I think babymoon tips are important considerations because the trip has risks.
Here are some tips that I think are important:
Destination
The babymoon destination should be chosen according to the strength and condition of the expectant mother. It does not have to be an overseas trip if the pregnant woman is unable to take a flight, a cruise, or a tiring road trip. Determine the babymoon destination according to the purpose of the babymoon.
If you want to relax, go to the beach or mountain.
If you want to walk a lot, eat a lot of good food, or love staying in crowds, find an exciting city.
Transportation
I suggest choosing a means of transport that is comfortable for pregnant women. The couple should choose the transportation according to the mother’s condition at that time whether using a flight, cruise or land transportation. Pay attention to whether pregnant women are at risk of muscle cramps or back pain.
You should calculate the duration of the journey along with the rest or transit time taken during the journey. The couple should know whether there will be a changing the mode of transport and the situation at the place of change.
Whatever the mode of transport is, it should be accessible to a toilet because pregnant women often urinate. It does not mean that if a pregnant woman travels in her private car then bring a toilette. At least, take a route that has a proper rest area.
Another challenge is the baggage. Before taking a babymoon trip the couple should consider who will bring all the luggage. A pregnant women should not carry items that are too heavy.
Weather
If the destination is not in your own country, I think you should consider it twice!
I suggest to avoid locations or seasons where the temperature is much different. Temperature during the summer season in Germany can reach above 40 degrees Celcius. On the other hand, the winter in Germany can also reach below 36 degrees.
Itinerary
I do not think making a tight itinerary for your babymoon is unnecessary. Even though the pregnant mother does not have nausea or vomit, I strongly suggest doing the babymoon during the second phase of pregnancy.
Stay healthy
Do not lister the body’s alarm. If you feel tired, it is okay to stop and sit down. When you feel dizzy or even tired, just stay at the hotel. I mean stay on your bed. Your condition will be better once you rest your body.
Do not forget to bring your pregnancy examination book. If something happens, the doctor you visit on the babymoon destination will understand your pregnancy better with this book.
Eat more food and drink more water!
Do not forget to consult your doctor or midwife before travelling. You can also ask your doctor to recommend a new doctor at the destination. Find information on the location of the nearest hospital.
With these tips, I hope to help other pregnant mothers who are planning a babymoon. Perhaps, I can give you some information that can help you who are currently uncertain whether you should go on a babymoon or not.
Indeed, we alone know whether our condition is capable or not. Sometimes the desire to go on holiday can override the body’s alarms that have been signalling the limitations of the body’s capabilities. If this is the case, my advice is to consult a doctor. Then, discuss this with your partner by considering the risks and benefits of a babymoon.
Happy travelling,
Amelia
